Which printer should you choose for an office or small business?
A poorly chosen printer is expensive, not when you buy it, but in cartridges, breakdowns and lost time. For an office, a practice or a small business, four questions are enough to pick the right model.
1. Laser or inkjet?
- Laser: the default choice for offices. Fast, sharp text, toner that does not dry out, and a low cost per page at higher volumes.
- Inkjet: good for photos and quality colour, or for small volumes. Ink tank models greatly reduce the cost per page.
In Marrakech’s heat, inkjet print heads that are rarely used can dry out faster: for irregular use, laser is the safer choice.
2. Single-function or multifunction?
If you scan invoices, IDs or contracts, choose a multifunction printer: print, copy and scan in one device. For heavy scanning, look for an automatic document feeder and duplex scanning.
3. Black and white or colour?
For quotes, invoices and letters, a mono laser is the most economical. Colour is worth it for marketing material, plans and client documents.
4. How much do you print?
- Under 500 pages a month: a compact office printer is enough.
- 500 to 3,000 pages: a professional laser with automatic duplex and networking.
- More: a multifunction copier becomes more cost-effective. For architectural plans, you need a wide-format plotter.
Often forgotten criteria
- the price and availability of toner in Morocco: calculate the cost per page;
- Ethernet or Wi-Fi so the whole team can print;
- automatic duplex printing to save paper;
- mobile printing, handy at a hotel or riad reception.
