IT equipment for a medical practice in Marrakech
Patient records, prescriptions, appointments, digital X-rays: in a medical, dental or physiotherapy practice, an IT failure stops consultations. Here is what you need to work with peace of mind and protect patient data.
Reception
- a compact or all-in-one PC with an SSD, quiet and tidy on the desk;
- a document scanner for prescriptions, test results and IDs.
The practitioner’s desk
- a desktop or business laptop with 16 GB of RAM if you view medical images;
- a good 24-inch or larger monitor to read images comfortably;
- for imaging software, check the vendor’s required configuration.
Printing
A compact mono laser printer is ideal for prescriptions and certificates: fast, economical, and no ink drying out. Shared over the network, it serves both reception and the practitioner.
Protecting patient data
Health data is sensitive. In Morocco, its processing is governed by Law 09-08 and supervised by the CNDP. In practice:
- one password per user and automatic screen lock;
- up-to-date antivirus on every computer;
- automatic daily backups with an off-site copy;
- a patient Wi-Fi separate from the practice network;
- a UPS to prevent database corruption during power cuts.
Once several computers share records, a small server or NAS centralises the data: see server for a small business: tower or rack.
